Job Description

Vyking is looking for a Senior Backend PayOps Engineer to join our engineering organization and act as a technical authority within the PayOps domain. 

In this role, you will work on mission-critical payment systems that process large volumes of real-time transactions across multiple payment service providers, banks, and financial partners. You will be responsible for designing scalable solutions, driving technical decisions, improving operational reliability, and ensuring payment systems continue to meet demanding business and regulatory requirements. 

This position combines deep hands-on backend engineering with technical leadership. You will contribute directly to development while mentoring other engineers, leading complex technical initiatives, and helping shape the long-term direction of our payment platform. 

This role is ideal for senior engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, operating high-availability systems, and taking ownership of business-critical infrastructure. 

Essential Job Tasks

  • Design, develop, and maintain core payment services and transaction processing workflows 

  • Own complex integrations with payment service providers (PSPs), banks, and financial service partners 

  • Define and promote engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across payment systems 

  • Drive architectural decisions to improve scalability, resilience, fault tolerance, and maintainability 

  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production incidents and payment-related issues 

  • Identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks across backend services and transaction flows 

  • Support load testing, stress testing, and capacity planning initiatives 

  • Define and improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and operational KPIs 

  • Ensure transaction integrity, reliability, traceability, and operational transparency 

  • Champion secure-by-design principles for payment and financial systems 

  • Support compliance with regulatory, audit, and internal security requirements 

  • Identify operational, technical, and security risks and proactively drive mitigation efforts 

  • Mentor and support medior and junior engineers within the PayOps domain 

  • Provide technical guidance during architecture discussions, reviews, and implementation phases 

  • Act as a subject matter expert for payment systems and transactional platforms 

  • Collaborate closely with DevOps, Product, Compliance, QA, and external partners 

  • Maintain documentation for payment architectures, integrations, operational procedures, and technical standards 

  • Promote knowledge sharing and engineering excellence across teams 

Skills & Qualifications 

Required 

  • 6+ years of professional backend development experience 

  • Strong background in payment systems, transactional platforms, fintech, or financial integrations 

  • Proven experience designing and operating high-availability, high-throughput production systems 

  • Expert-level proficiency in one or more backend technologies such as Java, C#, Go, Python, or Node.js 

  • Deep understanding of microservices architectures, distributed systems, and event-driven design patterns 

  • Strong expertise in database design, query optimization, and data consistency principles 

  • Experience building and operating REST APIs and service integrations 

  • Advanced experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and cloud-native systems 

  • Strong troubleshooting, performance optimization, and incident management experience 

  • Proficient written and spoken English 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience in iGaming or other regulated industries 

  • Experience with payment gateways, PSPs, acquiring systems, or reconciliation platforms 

  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or similar cloud environments 

  • Experience leading complex integrations or mission-critical platform initiatives 

  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks and security requirements related to payment systems 

  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and operational excellence practices
